His wife Elsie Sands, his parents Arthur Sands and Mary Sands (Gill), and his brother John Sands all predeceased him. He was the only surviving member of his immediate family. He was the only member of his immediate family who had made it through life. His sons James, of Fredericton, and Kenneth, of Windsor, Ontario, as well as his siblings Eileen (Dave), Karl, and Gary Sands (Dianne), and his beloved dog Molly, all survive him. Eileen, who was his wife, passed away before him. In addition to this, he has a large number of nieces and nephews who he is leaving behind.
