Richie Tutton Obituary, Death And Funeral Visitation
Richie Tutton Obituary, Death Cause – It is with the utmost regret that we share the news that Barry Dock Lifeboat Mechanic Richie Tutton, who was a prominent character at the lifeboat station and within the local community, went away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, May 28, 2023. Richie was highly liked, well respected, and a central presence in both places. After beginning his tenure at Barry Dock Lifeboat as a member of the volunteer crew in October 1999, Richie quickly moved through the ranks to become the full-time Mechanic for the station and our All Weather Lifeboat in March 2002.
Richie was kept busy as a result of the installation and addition of our Inshore Lifeboat, as well as the RNLI Flood Team and Equipment that was stationed at Barry Dock. Richie’s exceptional seamanship and comprehensive understanding of our All Weather Lifeboat, which he maintained to an exceptionally high quality throughout his time working for us as our Mechanic, resulted in the successful rescue of a great number of people while they were at sea. Because of his generosity, fairness, and sense of humor, new and veteran crew members looked to him as a helpful guide and mentor both at sea and on land.
He shared his skills, extensive knowledge, and sense of humor as an engineer and sailor. His abrupt departure was a significant and unexpected loss for everyone linked to him, but most especially his cherished family and close friends. His death has left a lasting impression on the station, the Barry Dock Lifeboat Community, and the larger RNLI across all of our flank stations and support staff. His passing has been strongly felt at the station. His effect and influence have been enormous in shaping what the Barry Dock Lifeboat station is like today. During the course of his career at Barry Dock Lifeboat, he worked with five different Coxswains.
