Norma Jessee Obituary, Death Cause – Norma Jean Jessee, from Pennington Gap, Virginia At the age of 72, Norma Jean Jessee (Gan- Gan), entered into eternal rest on May 29, 2023, at Holston Valley Medical Center. Norma, the daughter of Hurley Underwood and Pauline Hall Underwood, was born in Lee County. Her mother’s maiden name was Hall. She was the third kid out of a total of five. Norma, or “Gan- Gan” as she was affectionately referred to by those who loved her, was a wonderful person who was gifted in a variety of areas. She composed poems with a lot of passion. She was very talented at quilting, needlework, and sewing.

She found the greatest pleasure in filling her time with creative pursuits such as arts and crafts. Her animal companions were the most important things in her life. Gan was a loyal family member who was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Gan was also committed to her family. She and her family are members of the Jehovah’s Witness congregation that meets in the Kingdom Hall in Dryden, Virginia. Her family will miss her in a significant and profound way. Norma and Steven first crossed paths at Pennington Gap, and almost immediately thereafter, she had a gut feeling that he was the one for her. Soon after, they were married in front of Reverend Boyd Goodby, and they stayed married for 54 years.

They were blessed with four offspring as a result of their marriage. Her two sisters and brother, Margaret Ann Underwood, Naomi Rebecca Underwood, and Hurley Eugene Underwood, all passed away before her. Her father was the first member of her family to pass away. Her husband, Steven Jesse, her mother, Pauline Underwood of Lee County, Virginia, her two sons, Steven Jessee and wife Barbara of St.Charles, Virginia, and Joel Jessee of Pennington Gap, her two daughters, Shelia Garwood and husband Carlos of Jonesville, Virginia, and Melissa Smith of Washington, her brother, Earl Underwood of Dryden, Virginia, her grandchildren, Logan Garrett and husband Sean, Dillion Hensley, Tyler Garwood, Jalanina Jessee,
