Mike Gray Obituary, Death Cause – It has come to our attention with deep regret that Commander Mike Gray of the Columbus Division of Police passed away the other day. After more than three decades of exemplary service to the Division, he decided to leave from his position there just a few weeks ago. We had the opportunity to collaborate with him, and we thought of him as a buddy.
Not only did he gladly accept Starfish into his territory, but he was also overjoyed to see us there. He would always make an effort to rearrange his schedule in order to attend our gatherings, and he would take an active part in all of them. He had a genuine passion for communicating with members of the public and had a strong conviction that the relationship between the police and the community should be strengthened.
He delighted in stepping aside and watching the achievements of others, particularly those of his officers. He was humble, polite, and gracious, and he was a close friend to a great number of people. When he was younger, he shared with a class of youngsters attending a reading of Books and Badges that the reason he went into law enforcement was to assist others. There is no question about the fact that he was successful.
He was helpful not just to the individuals whose welfare he was responsible for, but also to his fellow officers and to us. We count ourselves extremely fortunate to have known him, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, and colleagues at this difficult time. We are deeply sorry for the loss you have suffered.
