Gerardine Carroll Obituary, In Loving Memory Of Gerardine Carroll
Gerardine Carroll Obituary, Death Cause – On Friday, the 19th of May, Sr. Gerardine (Gerry) Carroll ibvm passed away and went to be with her God in a simple and serene way. It is with profound sorrow that we share this news with you. Sr Gerry Carroll was the oldest of four children born to Maureen and Arthur Carroll, and she was born in Melbourne. Sr Gerry’s mother passed away in 1950, and her father later remarried and had four more children following her mother’s passing.
After spending many years teaching, Sr. Gerry realized that she needed a break. After completing her training in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and participating in a spiritual renewal course, she worked as a hospital chaplain in two Melbourne hospitals. Subsequently, she became a pastoral worker, serving first with the Redemptorist Lay Community and then with solo mothers. In addition to her work in the ministry, she earned a Bachelor of Theology degree through part-time study of theology and went on to earn a Master of Social Work degree.
Gerry cherished the fact that she had a large number of siblings and often referred to them as her “wonderful family.” She started her education at elementary schools in the neighborhood, but in sixth grade she transferred to Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak, where she was enrolled at first as a day scholar and then as a weekly boarder. This marked the beginning of her long affiliation with Loreto.
In May of 1955, Gerry enrolled at the Institute, and she began her career in the field in 1958. “He must increase, I must decrease” was her motto, which may be found in John 3:30. She spent a number of years in Normanhurst, Ballarat, Brisbane, and Sydney following her vocation by teaching music and looking after boarding students in those locations. In addition to this, she attended Melbourne University for a total of four years to study music throughout this time period.
