Mary Bechel Obituary, Death Cause – Mary Lou Bechel, who was 95 years old when she passed away, was a patient at Dove Healthcare West in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023. Mary Lou Bauer was born on August 1, 1927 in Wisconsin on the family farm located in Arkansas, Wisconsin. Her parents were named Thomas and Ann (Nothom) Bauer. She was one of six children, all of whom enjoyed helping out with the farm animals and with the duties around the house together.
Just a few months before Harry’s death in July of 2018, the couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Together, Mary Lou and Harry were blessed with eight children: five boys and three girls. Mary finished her education and has been employed as a certified nursing assistant at Sacred Heart Hospital for more than 20 years. After they retired, Mary Lou and Harry enjoyed going to their respective families’ homes all throughout the United States, including those in Alaska and Hawaii.
She spent the first eight years of her education in Arkansas walking across the field to the elementary school, and she graduated in the 15th percentile from Arkansas High School in 1945. Following her graduation, she relocated to St. Paul, Minnesota, where she took a job at the laboratory of St. Joe’s Hospital for a period of two years. Mary Lou Bechel wed the man who would become the love of her life, Harry Bechel, on May 29, 1948 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arkansas, Wisconsin. This was after Mary Lou had moved back to the Eau Claire region and started working at Presto in the office.
They had a lot of fun spending time at their trailer on Marshmiller Lake, where they could fish and take their pontoon boat out on the water. St. James Parish counted Mary as one of its original members when it was established. She was a member of the PCCW and had served as president in the past. She was an Avon representative for many years. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, and spending time in the kitchen.
