Kathryn Long Obituary, Local Routes Theme Song Writer And Beloved Vocalist Dies

Kathryn Long Obituary, Death Cause – We enjoyed her singing, took delight in her smile, and recognized the joy and beauty that she discovered in both life and in Tallahassee. She was a wonderful addition to the city. On May 23, 2023, the astrocytoma brain cancer that ultimately claimed the life of Kathryn Belle Long, who penned and performed the theme song for WFSU’s Local Routes, took its toll and caused her to pass away. Kathryn Belle Long was a talented songwriter and singer. Those of us here at WFSU Public Media who knew her, along with the many others in our community whose lives she touched, are saddened by the news of the passing of such a talented singer-songwriter who was so devoted to our area.

My introduction to Kathryn came about because Rob Diaz de Villegas, a producer at WFSU, set up the meeting. Back in 2015, we had assigned Rob, who had spent many years working with local musical groups, the job of finding someone who could create a theme song for a new WFSU broadcast show that we were in the process of putting together. Rob had spent many years working with local musical groups.

Rob had spent many years working with local musical groups. Rob had spent many years working with local musical groups. Rob’s extensive network of local musical contacts was a significant asset to our community. Even though we hadn’t figured out all of the specifics for the project just yet, we already had a name for it: “Local Routes.” We like the idea that we may be able to pronounce Routes like the word “Roots,” which would represent our mission to explore different parts of the area as well as to dive deeper into the history of our neighborhood. The word “routes” would be pronounced similarly to the word “roots.”
