John Cermack Obituary, Death Cause – Everyone, After the morning show, I was sent to cover breaking news almost immediately. After that, I had to run some errands before it was time to pick up the kid from school. Even after taking a step back and giving myself a chance to catch my breath, I’m having a hard time comprehending this piece of information.
This morning at News4jax, we received the sad news that a much-loved family member, John Cermack, had passed away as the result of an accident that occurred at his home in Roanoke, Virginia.
We referred to him collectively as “Smack.” Still to this day, I have no idea whence that nick name originated (lol). However, for some reason, it worked out perfectly. Smack served as a floor director for our team at News4jax for a number of years. This role required him to take us through a large number of newscasts and ensure that they were presented in an appealing manner to our audience. Over the course of the past few years, Smack has been promoted and has moved to our sister station, WSLS, which is located in Roanoke. His employment at Graham Media Group spanned 18 years and included both of the company’s stations.
To say that Smack was a fantastic individual would be grossly understating the situation. He was friendly, concerned about others, hilarious, and a master in the kitchen as well as the newsroom. No matter what I was going through, he was always there to reassure me and boost my confidence back up to where it needed to be. Even though hundreds of people entered and exited our facility each day, he had a knack of making each individual feel unique and important in that particular time.
Smack, you are being missed right now. I am grateful that you are you.
