Byron Monroe Obituary, Death Cause – Byron William Monroe, a resident of Dauphin Island, Alabama, passed away on May 21, 2023, after having lived a full and fruitful life. He had 84 years under his belt. In spite of the fact that he was born in Willimantic, he spent his entire life in Lebanon, Connecticut, right up until the time when he retired there. His wife Maggie, their son Richard, his sister Susan, and his brother in law Walter Samson all passed away before he did. Richard was their only child. His family, including his wife Maggie, his parents Frederick Monroe and Joan Vertefeuille, and his brother Richard all passed away before he did.
The only members of Byron’s family who were able to survive his dying were his daughter Donna and his son-in-law Jim Compton, both of whom reside in Glen Allen, Virginia. In addition to this, he was taken from this world before his cherished grandkids Jessica, James, and Patrick (Molly) Compton. Before reaching retirement age, Byron held the position of Lieutenant in the Motor Vehicle Department of the State of Connecticut, where he had worked for a significant number of years. Throughout his life, Byron was an outstanding athlete who participated in local leagues of basketball and softball in Willimantic with a lot of zeal.
In addition, he served his country in the military. In addition to that, he was involved in the social scenes of both the Willimantic and Mobile clubs. He had previously held the presidency of the Franco American Civic and Social Club, of which he was a member and had attended meetings in the past. He was a highly active member of the Elks Lodge #1311 and participated in all of their events.
Byron was a longtime member of the Dauphin Island VFW Post 250 and had previously held the position of president for the organization. In addition to that, he was a participant in the Dauphin Island Veteran Association in addition to Club 31. He and Maggie enjoyed spending a significant portion of their retirement years on Dauphin Island, where they made the most of every opportunity to explore new places and try out a variety of activities.
