Kaween Fernando Obituary, Death Cause – On Thursday, May 25, 2023, W. Kaween Fernando, age 36, from the Willimansett neighborhood of Chicopee, was called home to be with the Lord. He entered eternal life in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by his devoted family members who cared for and comforted him. On October 17, 1986, the cherished son of Welisarage M. Fernando and Deepthi (Mendis) Fernando was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
His full name is Welisarage Mendis Fernando. At the age of three, he moved to the United States with his family. He first resided in Brooklyn, New York, and then moved to Long Island, New York. In 1998, he moved to Chicopee, Massachusetts, where he spent the rest of his life. After completing his high school education at Chicopee High School, he attended Northeastern University in Boston to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
He attended the Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee and was a communicant there. He had pleasure in the kitchen, particularly preparing his cherished one-of-a-kind cuisine. In addition to that, Kaween adored participating in trivia, visiting vineyards and wineries, and going to the beach with the woman he cherished the most. He was devoted to his neighborhood and active in the political life of the town. Above all else, he was a devoted son, brother, fiancé, and friend to those closest to him.
He had an unending capacity for love and concern for his family, as well as for his friends. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his devoted fiancée, Dr. Mahawa Sam of Worcester; his devoted sisters, Kawinthi N. Fernando and her husband, Jeffrey Busha, of Haverhill, Malinthi L. Fernando of Worcester, and Dinithi C. Fernando of Chicopee; his dear aunt, Swineetha Fernando and her husband, Ananda Amarasinghe, and their family, of Staten Island
New York; and his two dear uncle His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (the funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Anthony of Padua Church, which is located at 56 Saint Anthony Street, Chicopee, MA 01013.
