Jim Schmidt Obituary, Death Cause – On March 31, 2023, Jim passed away from lung disease in a calm and comfortable manner surrounded by his family. It is inspiring to see how he has maintained his positive attitude and courage during his fourteen-year battle with an incurable illness. His family would want to extend their most sincere gratitude to Dr. Greg Cosgrove and Dr. Kathryn Springer for the wonderful care and expertise they provided him with, as well as to Xiomara Acosta at Craig Hospital and his many friends whose unflinching support helped him get through this difficult time; you were his oxygen and his most treasured possession.
Jim was a kind and respectable man who was also a devoted Catholic, hard worker, generous, and honest; nevertheless, the quality that stood out the most about him was his sense of humor. He laughed his way through life and loved everyone he met. He lived life to the fullest. He was an expert fly fisherman, loved the game of golf, and played polo. He also heli-skied. He was a Captain in the United States Air Force and was given the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. He was dedicated to his nation and served it honorably.
Jim, whose parents were Alvara and Harold Schmidt, was born on October 1st, 1944. He attended St. Michael’s College after completing his education in Locust Valley, which is located on Long Island, New York. It was a genuine love story when he and Carol Woods first connected in Georgetown’s après-ski scene. They eventually settled in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, where they brought up their two children, Heidi and Erik, both of whom made him quite proud. During this time, he launched his own company and quickly expanded its operations to eight different states. In 2009, due to his illness, it was put up for sale and sold.
