Ed Muniz Obituary, Death Cause – Edmond On Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the age of 83, Joseph Muniz, a beloved member of the neighborhood and a pillar of the community, died away surrounded by his family. On February 10, 1940, he was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Joseph Muniz and Mamie Juenesse Muniz, who both predeceased him.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggy Nette Muniz; daughters Mary Muniz d’Aquin (Darryl), Michelle Muniz Hanzo (Jim), Margie Muniz Bateman (Dave); grandchildren David d’Aquin (Caitlin), Erica d’Aquin Murray (Andy), Tori Hanzo Battle (Blake), and Jamie Hanzo; great-grandchildren Alice Lillian Murray and Baby Battle due in June 2023. Edmond received his elementary education at St. Rose of Lima School, then continued his education at St. Aloysius High School and Loyola University.
His military career was spent in the Air National Guard. His tenure as Captain of the Krewe of Endymion, which he had formed and named in honor of a racehorse on which he had placed a winning bet, spanned 57 years, which gave him the distinction of being the most long-serving Captain in the annals of Mardi Gras history. He held this title for 57 years. Despite the fact that Endymion has a long-standing reputation for being one of the most extravagant and magnificent parades, its origins can be traced back to a desire to create something enjoyable for people to participate in.
In addition to making important contributions to the culture of New Orleans and to the history of Mardi Gras, he was also involved in and interested in the affairs of the local community. After serving on the Kenner City Council and the Jefferson Parish Council for a number of years, he was elected to serve as the mayor of Kenner, Louisiana, in Louisiana. In addition to that, he was a member of the East Jefferson Hospital Board, the New Orleans Association of Broadcasters, and the Mardi Gras Advisory Committee for the Mayor. He attended services at the Church of the Divine Mercy regularly.
He joked that radio, politics, and Mardi Gras were the three works of his life, but in reality, he was a guy who was passionate about a great many things in addition to those three. In addition to this, he enjoyed going on adventures and spending time with his family, both at home and on vacations in Destin, Florida. He remained a devoted and modest man, always ready to give credit to the Lord he thought had blessed him, despite the fact that he achieved exceptional success in many of the ambitious projects he undertook.

On Friday, May 26, 2023, commencing at 10:00 am, there will be a visitation conducted at the Pontchartrain Center, which is located at 4545 Williams Blvd, Kenner, Louisiana 70065. This will be followed by a Catholic Liturgy Service at 2:00 pm, with the Reverends Paul Clark and Tom Guido officiating. After the funeral, a private burial will take place in the Metairie Cemetery.
