Douglas M. Wendling Obituary, Death Cause – At this time, please keep the family of Douglas M. Wendling, who passed away in Effingham, Illinois at the age of 69, in your thoughts and prayers. On the morning of May 23, 2023, Douglas passed away at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Funeral services will be place on May 31, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham, with Rev. Mike Burdick serving as the officiant.

The ceremonies will also be live streamed on YouTube at the “St. John’s Lutheran Effingham IL” YouTube Channel. Effingham’s Arborcrest Memorial Park will serve as the location for the burial. Visitation will be conducted in the church on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and continuing until 7:00 p.m. The Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is in charge of the services at this time. Donations in memory of John can be donated to St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Effingham Sportsbackers, or the charity of the donor’s choosing.

Simply clicking on this link will allow you to leave your condolences online. Doug Wendling is the son of Melvin and Ilda (Davis) Wendling, and he was born on June 21st, 1953 in Effingham, Illinois. He married Brenda (Mellendorf) Stortzum on November 8, 1991. Doug spent over 40 years working at South-Central FS and TGM in a variety of positions, the majority of which involved grain carrying. A large number of the friendships he developed during this time were fostered by the work he did there.

He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and loved going bird hunting, riding horses, watching old westerns and crime shows, and playing and watching basketball. In addition to that, he liked quality time spent with both his family and his friends. Doug is survived by his wife, Brenda Wendling of Effingham; son, Adam Wendling of Toledo, who is married to MaryBelle; stepsons, Trevor (Kelsey) Stortzum of Herrin and Lucas (Lauren) Stortzum of Rogers, AR; step-grandchildren, Andrew Gernigin, Keith Walker, and Aria, Amara, and Leah Stortzum; brother, Phillip Wendling of Effingham, who is married to Tammy; mother-in
