After his return in 1962, Dorothy and the rest of the family joyfully relocated to the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), which was then located at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. They joined a league with other military spouses and began bowling as a hobby while they were stationed there. They had a lot of fun playing exciting card games like poker and pinochle. But dancing was her absolute favorite hobby, and her other favorite pastime was playing bingo at the NCO Club on the military post.
Dorothy would ask her children to dance with her and perform the most up-to-date dances, like the twist, the jerk, the mash potato, and the swing, whenever she had visitors over. Dorothy and her family relocated to Henrietta, New York, in 1966, after Dorothy’s husband joined Xerox Corporation as Manager of the scientific data center following his retirement from active duty as Senior Master Sergeant after serving in the military for 20 years and retiring with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.
In 1967, the couple welcomed their youngest child, a son they named Brian Xavier after Malcolm X.
