Charles Parish Obituary, Death Cause – The passing of one of our longtime CASA volunteers in St. Charles Parish is a tragic loss for our organization, and our hearts go out to her family. On March 26, 2023, Brian Wayne Shinault, age 47 and a resident of New Orleans, was taken from this world unexpectedly. He earned his law degree from Southern University Law Center and went on to take and pass the bar exam at Tulane University. His daughter, Amber Shinault, as well as three of his grandchildren, will carry on his legacy after his passing.
In addition, he is survived by his mother, Sharon LaBiche, as well as his bonus father, William LiBiche Sr., as well as his brother Wayne Shinault, his sister Cher Shinault, and his son William La Biche Jr. His father, Allen Wayne Shinault, passed away before him and is buried next to him. On May 6, 2008, Brian took his oath of office as a volunteer with CASA. During his time as a CASA volunteer, he assisted with a wide variety of cases, the most of which were adolescents.
On the other hand, the case that he was working on at the time of his death included a little kid. Visits with his children and attendance at court proceedings as an advocate for the “voiceless” were both high on Brain’s list of priorities. He established a good relationship with the child’s biological parents in addition to the foster parents, and he prioritized what was in the child’s best interest at all times. Brian was committed to make a difference in the lives of children and helped children in a wide variety of parishes. The willingness, compassion, and dedication with which Brian approached his work as a CASA volunteer made him a valuable asset to the organization. We are grateful to him for the many years that he spent serving children, and he will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
