Ash Fairow Obituary, Death Cause – At the time of her passing on May 8, 2023 at the Arbors at Shelburne, Shelburne, Vermont resident Farrow, age 83, was comforted by the presence of her devoted family members. Kathy’s interests included but were not limited to: teaching music, playing the piano, tending to her family, folk dance, hiking, lobbying for the rights of incarcerated individuals, and embracing natural medicine. She enjoyed being outside as often as possible and was grateful for the beauty that can be found in the simplest things in nature, such as a trillium in blossom, the flaming hues of autumn, or summertime camping by a lake.
Kathy’s birthday is August 8th, and she was born in Schenectady, New York, in 1939. After receiving her diploma from Nott Terrace High School, she went on to study at the University of Vermont, where she joined the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and majored in French language and literature. At UVM, she became acquainted with Cedric, her husband of 61 years. They tied the knot in 1961, and in 1972, they uprooted their family to Shelburne, Vermont, bringing with their children Kim, Lori, and Eric. They spent those 51 years together in the home that they had designed and built themselves.
Kathy had a natural ability to instruct and care for others. In the beginning of her career, she was a teacher in Monroe, Connecticut, where she was in charge of the third grade. Later on, she was instrumental in the establishment of the Essex Community Kindergarten in Essex, Vermont, where she oversaw a variety of imaginative activities for kindergarten students. She started offering private piano lessons in her home shortly after relocating to Shelburne. She had a lot of affection for her students and respected the unique qualities of each one. Both the Vermont Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association gave her their seal of approval as a qualified music educator. In South Burlington, Vermont, where she lived, she was a member of the Greenfield Piano Associates.
