Barbara Stitzel Obituary, Death Cause – Barbara R. Stitzel DUNLAP, ILLINOIS After a valiant fight against ovarian cancer that lasted for four years, Barbara R. Stitzel, age 66, of Dunlap, Illinois, passed away in peace on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. She was the daughter of Lloyd and Margaret (Freeman) Reeves and was born on January 26, 1957 in Buffalo, New York.
On August 9, 1980, Barbara weds Daniel Stitzel in the ceremony that took place at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Gowanda. After graduating from Gowanda Central High School with the Class of 1975, Barb attended Ohio Northern University’s Raabe College of Pharmacy and earned a Bachelor of Science degree there. She then pursued a successful career as a certified pharmacist in a variety of settings, including retail, urgent care, and hospitals, before beginning a family and devoting her time to its upbringing.
A devout member of the congregation at Prospect United Methodist Church in Dunlap up until the time of her diagnosis, after which she would continue to worship through online services during the course of the pandemic and up until the time of her passing. Barb is survived by her husband Daniel, two sons; Benjamin (Ashely Layton) Stitzel of Metamora and MM1 Peter (Phylicia) Stitzel who is currently stationed with the United States Navy in Roda, Spain;
eight grandchildren; Isaac, Stella, and Emma Stitzel; Harmony Stitzel, Peighton and Preston Layton; Aiden and Jace Little; and Isaac’s mother Samantha (Brandon) Little of East Peoria. Barbara is also survived by her brother David (Jacquelyn) Reeves and her sister Nancy (David) Steves, both of whom live in Collins, New York. She also has a niece named Emily Steves, as well as three nephews named Jordan, Trevor (Kimberly), and Adam (Arielle Holmes) Steves. In addition, Barb leaves behind a great niece by the name of Hadley Steves and a great nephew by the name of Paxton Steves.
