Pete Land Obituary, Death Cause – The demise of club legend Pete Land is something that we must acknowledge with deep regret and sorrow. For those of you who are familiar with Pete, I don’t think I need to say much more about him, but for those of you who aren’t, let me explain. It’s safe to say that Pete wasn’t one to hold back his thoughts and opinions, especially when it came to his much-loved Rugby League Club.
Although, he hasn’t had any direct involvement with the running of the club in recent years, he laid the foundations for us to do what we do now. At 2:30 on the following Saturday, our senior team will compete against Keighley Albion in the quarter finals of the Yorkshire Men’s Shield competition. In memory of Pete, we are going to observe a moment of silence before to the start of the game.
Pete was one of a kind and what a bloke he was; he served the Dodworth Rugby League Club and the Dodworth Miners Welfare for over 20 years and held various roles throughout that time. It’s safe to assume that the Dodworth Miners ARLFC wouldn’t be where it is today if it weren’t for the hard work that Pete Land has put in over the years. Although, he hasn’t had any direct participation with the running of the club in recent years, he laid the foundations for us to do what we do now, and we are eternally thankful; therefore, in 2019, we named the Clubman of the Year award after him, in respect.
